The Wuzhen Theater Festival, now in its eleventh year, will take place from Oct 17 to 27 under the theme "solidity". This event not only showcases the evolution of young dramatists but also the vibrant global theater scene, drawing throngs of attendees.
Registration for the Emerging Theater Artist Competition and the Outdoor Carnival opened on April 29. The competition is a platform for young talent to showcase their creativity and has been a launchpad for many now prominent figures in Chinese theater. This year's creative challenge involves "pillows, sunshine, and large dinosaurs", with performances capped at 30 minutes.
Submissions are accepted via the official website until Aug 20. Eighteen finalists will be announced on Sept 22 and will perform during the festival, competing for prestigious awards, including a 200,000-yuan ($27,683) Best Play Award.
The Outdoor Carnival transforms Wuzhen into an artistic haven, with performances ranging from traditional to avant-garde, across over 30 outdoor stages. Lasting impressions are made as visitors engage with art in unconventional spaces, resulting in a unique cultural experience.
This year's carnival will feature a diverse array of global art forms. Registration will remain open until Sept 13. Festival organizers encourage public recommendations for performances that embody the vitality of contemporary art.
