Paris has recently seen the inauguration of three new rail stations, each featuring escalators made in Haining, a county-level city of Jiaxing, Zhejiang province.
The project is part of the East-West Railway Express Line expansion in Paris, which included five stations — three new and two renovated — equipped with a total of 183 escalators from the Otis production base in Haining.
Under planning since 2017, the expansion aims to manage increased passenger flow and culminated in the completion of the escalator order in June 2023.
The Haining base, operational since 2020, is Otis' largest escalator manufacturing base. Its products are known for their high quality and have been installed in numerous international projects, reaching over 120 countries.
Among the new stations, Porte Maillot stands out with its proximity to Parisian landmarks and its role as a vital interchange station. It boasts 25 Otis escalators. La Defense station, located in a bustling business district, broke records with three 25-meter-high and 58-meter-long escalators, the longest in France. The installation process at La Defense was a feat of engineering precision and labor, requiring 3,000 hours to assemble 56 heavy-duty escalators.
The extended line is expected to serve 650,000 passengers daily, with the new stations already accommodating 370,000. The operating system of the escalators is also equipped with advanced digital maintenance technology for optimal performance, promising passengers a safe, comfortable, and efficient transit experience.
