Duanwu Folk Culture Festival kicks off in Jiaxing
Jiaxing's Zicheng Square was a spectacle of cultural pride as the 2024 Duanwu Folk Culture Festival kicked off on June 2.
Li Jun, mayor of Jiaxing, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the event, emphasizing the Dragon Boat Festival's UNESCO-recognized status and its embodiment of Chinese spirit and values. The Duanwu Folk Culture Festival, deeply rooted in Jiaxing's history, showcases the city's commitment to preserving and innovating traditional customs.
Marking its 18th year, the festival promises a series of events that reflect the city's rich heritage. Activities include dragon boat races, folk experiences, the Duanyang Market Fair, and theatrical performances in ancient towns, all designed to deepen the public's connection with traditional culture.
This year's Duanyang Market Fair blends heritage crafts, local cuisine, and traditional attire in a bustling marketplace setting.
From June 2 to 10, the festival will also feature zongzi wrapping contests and sachet exhibitions, enriching the cultural tapestry of Jiaxing's Dragon Boat Festival.
