The past week has been busy for Jiaxing's fruit industry.
On June 20, over 500 representatives from global durian enterprises gathered in Jiaxing to discuss the industry's future. Despite its polarizing nature, durian sales surge every summer. Jiaxing, though not a durian producer, hosted the conference to streamline durian sales and consumption.
Durian-related topics have gained popularity of late, with Jiaxing residents becoming more enthusiastic about the fruit. From January to June 18, Jiaxing sold 143,800 metric tons of durians, a 13.84-percent increase from last year.
In Tongxiang's Taoyuan village, a dedicated express line for zuili plums has been established. The first batch of zuili plums, known as the "king of fruits in Jiangnan", has ripened and hit the market since June. A strategic cooperation with China Post ensures fresh plums quickly reach consumers nationwide.
Taoyuan zuili plum sales have already exceeded 15,000 kilograms, with over 4,000 deliveries.
In addition to durians and zuili plums, sales of Jiaxing's watermelons, waxberries, and peaches have also peaked. At the Jiaxing fruit market, over 200 trucks of fresh peaches are dispatched daily, each carrying 5,000 boxes.
In 2023, Jiaxing's fruit market generated 55.66 billion yuan ($7.66 million) in transactions, with a volume of 3.89 million tons.
