In the first half of this year, Haining's Jiashan Port saw significant growth in container throughput. From January to June, the port's sea-river intermodal transport exceeded 90,600 twenty-foot equivalent units, an 18.01-percent increase year-on-year.
Additionally, the total volume of general cargo handled was 153,000 metric tons, up 28.68 percent from last year.
Chint Solar, Hengyi New Materials, Jinko, and Halead are key clients of Jiashan Port. The port's network has served over 200 companies in the first half of 2024, nearly 50 more than during the same period last year.
"In line with national green and efficient practices, sea-river intermodal transport is the future. Jiashan Port offers a logistics model with excellent service, smooth channels, and low costs," said Chen Yuhui, general manager of Haining Tongcheng Port Operation Co Ltd.
It is estimated that after the scale-up of road-to-water transport, exporting foreign trade containers through the sea-river intermodal logistics model can save enterprises 200 yuan ($27.5) per container.
During the first half of this year, berths 1-3 at Jiashan Port were upgraded with container functions, adding two 45-ton cranes and over 10,000 square meters of rear storage yard. This upgrade doubles the port’s annual capacity to 350,000 TEUs, laying a solid foundation for future growth.
