New intercity railway to connect Jiangnan water towns
A new intercity railway, the Water Town Tourism Line, is making new progress with a recent tender announcement for its survey and design.
This railway will connect several picturesque Jiangnan water towns, offering a unique travel experience.
Designed to run at 160 kilometers per hour, the Water Town Tourism Line is slower than high-speed rail but much faster than typical subways. With more frequent stops, it allows residents to board conveniently at nearby stations.
According to the plan, the railway will start in Hangzhou, pass through Qiantang district, cross the Qiantang River to Haining, Jiaxing, and continue through Tongxiang in Jiaxing and Nanxun district, Huzhou. It will then enter Jiangsu province, pass through Wujiang district, Suzhou, and finally reach Qingpu district, Shanghai.
Along the way, it will pass through ancient water towns like Wuzhen, Nanxun, Lianshi, Yanguan, Zhenze, Lili, and Tongli, all rich in tourist attractions.
The railway will also connect to Hangzhou International Airport, the Qiantang Hub, Suzhou South Station, and Huzhou Nanxun Station, making travel convenient for residents of Jiaxing. They will be able to explore ancient towns, visit Suzhou's famous gardens, and reach Shanghai with ease, marking a new era of easier travel.
