5 Jiaxing Regions make top 100 in China's county economy rankings
With the unveiling of the 2024 China County Economy High-Quality Development Research results on July 31, five regions in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, were recognized among the nation's top performers — Haining (ranked 16th), Tongxiang (21st), Pinghu (38th), Jiashan (53rd), and Haiyan (90th).
The study focused on the development characteristics and models of counties with 100-billion-yuan economies, industrial counties, and the top 100 counties.
Haining, known for its strong industrial economy, achieved a regional gross domestic product of 131.82 billion yuan ($18.21 billion) in 2023, growing by 8 percent. The city's industrial output and added value of above-designated-size enterprises expanded 10.8 percent and 14.8 percent, respectively, in 2023, leading Zhejiang's large industrial counties in growth rates.
Tongxiang, the permanent host of the World Internet Conference, showed strong evidence of its thriving digital economy. The city boasts over 18,000 market entities and 40,000 enterprises, forming a strong industrial system focused on digital economy, new materials, and new manufacturing.
Pinghu surpassed 100 billion yuan in GDP for the first time last year. The city continues to drive innovation and reform, expanding its industrial scale and exploring overseas markets.
Jiashan saw significant growth in 2023, with major breakthroughs in attracting large projects. The county signed 126 high-quality projects with a total investment of 70.5 billion yuan, marking the best year in its history for project attraction.
Haiyan achieved impressive growth in 2023, with a 6-percent increase in GDP and leading the city in several economic indicators. The county's industrial profits of above-designated-size enterprises and number of newly listed enterprises were among the highest in Jiaxing.
