11th Wuzhen Theater Festival: A global celebration of drama
The 11th Wuzhen Theater Festival will take place from Oct 17 to 27 in Wuzhen, Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, offering 11 days of theatrical performances.
This year's festival features 24 plays from 11 countries, with 86 performances across 11 theaters in Wuzhen.
The festival includes specially invited plays, an emerging theater artist competition, an outdoor carnival, town dialogues, a theater market, and a new dream granary.
The organizing committee has selected high-quality plays based on international, contemporary, and professional standards, inviting artists and audiences worldwide to celebrate drama.
Among the 24 plays, 13 are from countries like the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy. Highlights include We are Leaving by European theater and opera director Krzysztof Warlikowski and presented by the Nowy Teatr, and Littoral by French director and playwright Wajdi Mouawad, in collaboration with the National Theater of Colline.
Additionally, 11 top-tier Chinese plays will be featured, including Lying Flat 2.0 by Wang Chong.
The emerging theater artist competition and outdoor carnival are still open for registration. Over the past 10 editions, the emerging theater artist competition has attracted over 10,000 participants, with more than 600 young theater practitioners presenting 161 original works at the Bangwan Theater.
