Jiaxing's foreign trade up 10.1% in first seven months
Jiaxing's imports and exports were valued at 273.09 billion yuan ($38.33 billion) in the first seven months of the year, a 10.1-percent increase year-on-year.
Exports reached 208.85 billion yuan, up 8 percent, while imports totaled 64.24 billion yuan, a rise of 17.4 percent. In July alone, Jiaxing's foreign trade in goods was valued at 40.89 billion yuan, a 13-percent increase from the previous year.
The city's imports expanded by 20.7 percentage points from the previous month, making Jiaxing the top performer in terms of import growth in Zhejiang province.
Exports to major markets like the European Union, United States, and ASEAN showed strong growth, with increases of 8 percent, 10.5 percent, and 12.6 percent, respectively. Exports to the Middle East and India surged by 23.9 percent and 53.5 percent. On the import side, Jiaxing saw substantial increases from ASEAN and the US in July.
Mechanical and electrical products, along with labor-intensive goods, drove export growth. In July, exports of these products grew by 9.6 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively. High-tech product exports, however, fell by 1.5 percent. Imports of mechanical and electrical products and agricultural goods grew rapidly, while resource-based commodity imports declined.
