Jiaxing University's summer social practice group, including both Chinese and international students, visited the Zongzi Culture Museum and the Grand Canal Digital Poetry Road e-Station in Nanhu district to explore traditional Chinese culture on Aug 28.
At the Zongzi Culture Museum in the Yuehe Historical Block, students learned about Jiaxing's rich Dragon Boat Festival traditions, including eating zongzi and dragon boat racing. They even tried wrapping zongzi themselves, experiencing Jiaxing's unique intangible cultural heritage. Karima Bouchaib from Morocco, studying civil engineering, found it challenging but exciting, appreciating Jiaxing's blend of modernity and tradition.
The Grand Canal Digital Poetry Road e-Station showcased the Jiaxing section of the Grand Canal through text, images, VR, and holographic projection. Students were captivated by the cultural essence of the canal. Agouzoul Meryem from Morocco noted the importance of experiencing China firsthand to truly understand its history and people.
The event also emphasized cultural exchange, with students sharing stories and cultural insights. Wan Yuxin, an English major, highlighted the joy of discovering commonalities with people from different countries, such as similar foods.
The summer social practice week covered economic, political, cultural, social, and ecological aspects, offering a comprehensive view of Jiaxing. Liu Yunchao, deputy dean of the International Education College of Jiaxing University, expressed hope that international students would gain a deeper understanding of China's development and culture through such activities.
