The 2024 World Design Cities Conference (WDCC), co-hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Government and UNESCO, took place in Shanghai from Sept 27 to 30.
The premier event featured nearly 500 brands and over 3,000 exhibits, showcasing top industrial and cultural designs.
One highlight was renowned sports shoe brand Warrior, which introduced 12 innovative sneakers incorporating elements from 100 traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage items, including Haiyan's rolling lamps.
At the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts-Warrior ICH 100+ Sports Fashion New Product Launch on Sept 28, the standout product was the rolling lamp Warrior sneaker.
The sneaker creatively integrated the artistic form of a rolling lamp with a modern design. Featuring a detachable, glowing 3-centimeter rolling lamp, the sneakers are highly practical, while also showcasing traditional culture.
"The rolling lamp is one of Haiyan's most representative national ICH items," said a spokesperson from Haiyan county's publicity department. With over 800 years of history, Haiyan rolling lamps are a unique cultural symbol.
