20-year-old Jiaxing athlete wins Asian championship
Huang Shenli, a 20-year-old rower from Jiaxing, won gold in the women's quadruple sculls on Oct 12 at the 2024 Asian Rowing Championships in Uzbekistan.
Huang started rowing in 2016 at age 12 at Fenhu Water Sports Center. She initially treating it as a hobby, but after ranking last on her team, she became determined to improve, giving her best effort at every training session. Her coach, Ye Ping, saw her potential and described her as a hard-working talent.
In just two years, Huang won gold in the double sculls at the 2018 Zhejiang Provincial Games. Although she didn't make the provincial team at that time, she didn't give up and resumed training in 2021 after a two-year hiatus. Her dedication ultimately earned her a spot on the provincial team.
Huang's achievements include multiple national titles and overcoming weight challenges to compete in lightweight events. Her resilience and positive attitude, bolstered by support from her coach, have been key to her success. She expressed gratitude for the guidance from her coaches and the Fenhu Water Sports Center.
Looking ahead, Huang remains passionate about rowing and aims to continue improving and achieving greater heights in her sport, with hopes for an even brighter future.
