Jiaxing athlete shines at national weightlifting championships
Jiaxing's rising star, Pei Xinyi, triumphed at the National Weightlifting Championships and 15th National Games Qualification Tournament, earning gold in snatch, clean and jerk, and overall in the 59-kilogram category.
Pei dominated the snatch phase by lifting 95kg, 100kg, and 103kg. In the clean and jerk, she lifted 130kg, securing the top spot. Pei's total of 233kg bagged her three gold medals.
This year, Pei is also set to compete in the IWF World Championships in December. Shao Guoqiang, coach of the Zhejiang provincial weightlifting team, explained that the recent national competition served as vital preparation for the World Championships.
Shao believes that Pei's performance will improve with more experience and technical refinement. Post-championships, Pei will undergo a critical winter training regimen in preparation for next year's National Games.
At the age of just 19, Pei has already earned numerous accolades. She won the Zhejiang Youth Weightlifting Competition in 2016 and has claimed several provincial titles.
In 2021, Pei reached national master standards and was selected for the national training team. In December 2022, she clinched three gold medals at her first World Championships, setting new junior records.
At the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023, Pei won the silver medal in Group A of women's 64kg weightlifting with a total of 104kg snatch and 130kg clean and jerk, and a total of 234kg.
