Jiaxing's roads get smarter with internet technology
Jiaxing is innovating daily life with internet technology. Now, roads in Tongxiang, a county-level city of Jiaxing, are becoming "smart".
The directional signs on the 4-kilometer-long Puyuan Avenue have been upgraded to variable LED signs. Since March, Puyuan Avenue has become a "smart road" through the establishment of a "holographic digital road". During peak hours, the system's "brain" automatically identifies congestion and intelligently switches lane directions.
Chen Zhenhua, captain of the Puyuan squad at Tongxiang traffic police brigade, explained that if the wait for left-turn lanes is too long, the traffic lights can switch to allow two lanes to turn left. Similarly, if there are too many vehicles in the straight-ahead lanes, the left-turn lanes can be reduced to one, ensuring quicker passage and significantly improving traffic efficiency.
Puyuan Avenue is a major road linking Tongxiang and Jiaxing and handles over 300,000 vehicles daily, making traffic management crucial. The "holographic digital road" aids road management and traffic flow through sensors, high-precision maps, and intelligent control algorithms to generate real-time data on vehicle speed, trajectory, and traffic light status.
Data indicates the renovation has significantly reduced congestion and decreased traffic accidents at intersections by about 30 percent.
In addition, a "vehicle-road-cloud integration" coordinated intersection at Erhuan North Road and Wuzhen North Avenue in Tongxiang was recently put into use.
Equipped with new laser radars and fisheye cameras, this intersection uses advanced technologies to create a 1:1 digital twin of the traffic environment, enabling comprehensive awareness of traffic flow, speed, and direction. The system will closely monitor vehicles for speeding and collision risks and provide real-time alerts to drivers to avoid hazards.
