Build a child-friendly city, Jiaxing in action
To foster a more child-friendly city, Jiaxing is actively involving teenagers and children, ensuring their needs and ideas are thoroughly integrated into the city's development processes.
In response to challenges like heavy traffic, safety concerns amid mixed pedestrian and vehicular flow, and parking difficulties during school commutes, Jiaxing's Nanjiang Community unveiled a dedicated 2-kilometer pathway for students of Nanhu School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University (Qingfeng Road Campus) in early December.

For parents accustomed to driving their children to and from school, a new and appealing alternative now exists — walking. This not only allows them to savor the scenic route but also significantly eases road congestion.
Furthermore, ongoing improvements to the pathway are guided by student feedback. Stretching alongside the campus walls, the pathway features fun murals such as cartoon motifs, educational content on science and nature, and more, all inspired by student suggestions.
Shen Xinzhu, the school's vice principal, highlighted the value of this initiative. As students walk to and from school, they not only absorb knowledge from the wall art but also share moments of joy with their peers.
