Jiaxing Port in Zhejiang province was the top performer among the region's coastal ports, posting a 32.84 percent surge in container throughput for the first two months of 2025, official data revealed.

The port handled 633,500 standard containers from January to February, outpacing all provincial peers in growth, according to the Jiaxing Port and Shipping Management Service Center.

Foreign trade played a pivotal role in this achievement, with export-import container volume climbing 26.42 percent to 101,300 standard containers.

The port's reach has expanded to six coastal routes to Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, and three other nations.

A landmark development came on Feb 22, when Jiaxing Port's comprehensive bonded import supervision facility passed inspection by China's General Administration of Customs.

This milestone made it the first such seaport under the jurisdiction of Hangzhou Customs, unlocking new capabilities for the Zhapu terminal of Jiaxing Port. The port can now directly import fruits, edible aquatic animals, chilled seafood, and meat. More diverse cargo is expected to flow through Jiaxing Port in the months ahead.

A representative of the Jiaxing branch of Zhejiang Provincial Seaport Investment & Operation Group outlined ambitious plans to build on this momentum.

"We'll adjust shipping frequency based on demand and hone our river-sea transport edge," the official said. "Our goal is to bolster Jiaxing Port's role as a transport hub in the Yangtze River Delta region."
