A unique scene unfolded at Jiaxing Library in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, where 60 computers neatly lined up in a reading room, each with a senior citizen attentively following a presentation on DeepSeek, an AI tool, on May 21.

To help older adults stay current with technological trends, Jiaxing Library began offering free AI classes in April. Seniors can sign up online to participate.

These AI classes are part of the library's long-running initiative, which started in 2008. Over the years, training has expanded from basic computer skills to smartphone apps and now to AI. The current course includes five modules focused on practical applications like messaging, news, and AI reference tools such as DeepSeek.

To accommodate varying skill levels, the presentation materials feature large fonts and simplified instructions. Instructors frequently assist participants one-on-one, and informal "help groups" have emerged among the attendees.

The program has reached nearly 300 participants in person, with recorded lessons available online for continued learning. Jiaxing Library plans to keep expanding the curriculum to help more elderly residents benefit from digital tools.
