Juicy and sweet Zuili plums from Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, went on their first international trip on July 5 to the United Arab Emirates. By July 15, they were already sold out in Dubai's major chains, Wemart and Hippo Box, marking the first overseas export of Jiaxing's signature fruit.

Zuili is a regional specialty praised for its tender flesh and rich juice. The debut batch weighed between 60 and 70 grams per fruit and reached sugar levels of 16 degrees. One seven-piece gift box sold at Hippo Box for around 640 yuan (about $89.13), pricing each plum at nearly 91 yuan.

The export venture originated from an earlier trade fair in the Middle East. Noticing the demand for high-quality fruit, a Jiaxing-based apparel trader and his daughter transitioned to fruit exports, partnering with local orchards.

They overcame strict export requirements and logistical challenges, such as the fruit's delicate nature and short shelf life. Experience gained this season is now being used to improve packaging and sorting for future shipments.
