Zhang Zongxiang themed exhibition opens in Jiaxing

An exhibition themed "Zhang Zongxiang's Artistic Journey" opened in Haining, a county-level city in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on July 28, featuring Zhang's manuscripts, calligraphy, paintings, and documentary images.

This free exhibition includes three main sections and runs through Aug 18 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Zhang Zongxiang (1882–1965), a Haining native, was a scholar, calligrapher, and polymath renowned for his calligraphy, painting, literary works, and deep knowledge of ancient texts, medicine, music, and drama.

Zhang was famed for transcribing and proofreading over 9,000 volumes of rare ancient books. He was also a talented educator, illustrator of geography textbooks, and held various cultural and administrative roles, including head of Zhejiang Library.

At the exhibition's opening, Zhang's descendants donated 107 personal items to the Haining Archives, including manuscripts and artworks.
