Four new berths at the Dushan port area of Jiaxing Port in Pinghu, a county-level city in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, were recently completed and handed over.

The addition brings the number of offshore productive berths at Dushan Port to 29, with nearly 80 percent capable of accommodating vessels over 10,000 metric tons.

The B13 and B14 multipurpose berths and the A5 and A6 liquid bulk cargo berths were built with a combined investment of more than 2 billion yuan ($278.48 million). B13 and B14 are built for containers and general cargo, with two 30,000-ton berths meeting 50,000-ton infrastructure standards.

A5 and A6, located three kilometers away, are designed for liquid bulk cargo. Each berth accommodates 50,000-ton ships or two smaller vessels, while the 188,000-cubic-meter tank area can handle 5.07 million tons of liquid cargo annually.

The tank area will extend its service to over 2,000 chemical companies across the Yangtze River Delta region after becoming operational.

The upgrades are part of a 5.86 billion yuan sea-river intermodal transport demonstration project. Automation and intelligent systems have been integrated — including fully automated bridge cranes and a digital control system, streamlining port operations and lowering logistics costs.
