Workers at Chenxing Farm in Wangdian town, Xiuzhou district, Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, have been busy harvesting and packing grapes for export to Vietnam since Aug 26.
According to the purchasing firm, one container of grapes is shipped every two days, reaching Vietnam within 48 hours. Planned procurement is between 100 and 200 metric tons, depending on quality and sales.
More than 20 workers were seen sorting, cleaning, packing, and labeling grapes on Aug 27. The grapes, primarily the Shine Muscat variety, are cooled in storage before being transported via cold chain through Pingxiang Port in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to Vietnam. Export prices are about 2 yuan (28 cents) per kilogram higher than in the domestic market, where prices currently range from 3 to 10 yuan per kilogram.
Chenxing Farm covers 12 hectares of vineyards, including about 3 hectares under greenhouses, with a harvest season extending through late October. The farm holds both orchard and packing facility export certifications, ensuring a complete supply chain from field to shipment.
In addition to Vietnam, one container of grapes is on its way to Dubai. This year, Xiuzhou has rapidly expanded its fruit exports, with Zuili plums shipped to Dubai in July, followed by Shine Muscat grapes and pears to the Middle East. Now, Vietnam is a new market.
