A rare sight appeared in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, as the flying eaves of Zicheng Qiaolou seemed to cradle a red moon during a total lunar eclipse at 2:50 am on Sept 7.

The phenomenon took place above Zicheng Ruins Park, a 75,000-square-meter site in Nanhu district with a rich historical background.

The Qiaolou, a towering ancient gatehouse, is the only surviving city tower still on the province's historic walls. From its upper floor, visitors can view the cityscape of Jiaxing and the misty scenery of Nanhu Lake.

Beneath the structure lie foundations dating back to the Three Kingdoms (220–280), together with remains from a subcity dating to the late Tang Dynasty (618–907) and government offices of the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) dynasties.
