The commencement ceremony for construction on the Fengyuan campus of the Elementary School affiliated with Hangzhou Normal University in the Jiaxing Economic and Technological Development Zone was held on March 10, local media reported.
The campus will cost 180 million yuan ($25.88 million), cover an area of 40,643 square meters, and be capable of accommodating 30 classes.
In addition to teaching buildings, the school will also include a laboratory building, a comprehensive building, a stadium, a dining hall, a track-and-field ground, and various landscapes.
The elementary school is expected to open in September 2021, at which time an educational group consisting of the Huayuan, Xieli, and Fengyuan campuses of the Elementary School affiliated with Hangzhou Normal University will be established.
"The school will help alleviate a shortage in local educational resources," said Xiong Guohong, deputy director of the education, culture and sports bureau of the Jiaxing Economic and Technological Development Zone.
Due to the zone's increasing prosperity, a growing number of people are choosing to live in the zone, and its current elementary schools are having trouble coping with the influx.
In 2018 and 2019, the zone started building four schools, including one elementary school, two middle schools, and one high school. This year, in addition to the aforementioned Fengyuan campus, the zone also started construction on two other schools.
