Wuzhen and Nanhu Lake were among the most popular 5A scenic spots – the highest classification for China's tourist attractions – in 2019, according to a list released by wrd.cn, a big data platform in China.

Wuzhen ranked sixth among all 5A scenic spots and topped all other 5A manmade attractions in China, while Nanhu Lake ranked sixth on the list of 5A natural scenic attractions.

Wuzhen is a historic town located at the north end of Tongxiang city, on the banks of the west Grand Canal. The 1,300-year-old town is one of the six ancient towns south of the Yangtze River.

There are more than 30 ancient bridges in the town, and most residents live beside the water, which lends an air of undeniable authenticity to the locals of the water-town.

Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing in Zhejiang province - along with Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing and West Lake in Hangzhou – is among the "Three Renowned Lakes" of the south Yangtze River.

The scenic spot boasts charming scenery, and the renowned poet Su Shi (1037-1101), who lived during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), also praised the lake. It includes an ancient garden complex, and the revered Nanhu Lake Revolutionary Memorial is a must-see.
