Jiaxing performs well in sci-tech innovation
Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province shared its experience in scientific and technological innovation at a meeting about the pilot work of Innovation China in Zhejiang on Dec 3.
Innovation China is a program launched by China Association for Science and Technology, which aims to build a technology-oriented service and trade platform to make technologies better serve economic and social development.
In June this year, Jiaxing was shortlisted for the role of pilot city of the Innovation China program and since then, the city has ramped up efforts to promote scientific and technological innovation.
Jiaxing cooperated with Tsinghua University, the Academy of Military Sciences and China Electronics Technology Group Corp to establish research institutes.
The city also encouraged local companies with annual sales revenue of more than 500 million yuan ($76 million) to establish research institutions by themselves or by cooperating with relevant companies, universities and research institutes.
Currently, 20 companies involving new materials, healthcare and intelligent manufacturing have applied to build such institutions which are expected to gather 4,990 full-time researchers in total.
Jiaxing Association for Science and Technology was recently approved by Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology as the only pilot institution for the integration of science and education in the province.
Jiaxing also established an award to encourage scientific and technological innovation by teenagers and published measures to cultivate young scientific and technologic talent.
