Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province, along with three other cities, has been listed as an innovation hub in China, local media reported on May 30.

The innovation hubs were determined by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) as part of the Innovation China program. They are expected to improve their innovation capacity to achieve high-quality development as soon as possible.

Innovation China is a program launched by CAST, which aims to build a technology-oriented service and trade platform to make technologies better serve economic and social development.

A staff member from the Jiaxing Association for Science and Technology said that Jiaxing's recognition as an innovation hub confirms the achievements made by the city in constructing an Innovation China pilot city, as well as affirms its exploration in integrating technology with economic development.

Due to the project, the total added value and growth rate of Jiaxing's high-tech, equipment manufacturing, digital economy's core manufacturing, and artificial intelligence industries were ranked in the top three in Zhejiang last year.

In 2020, Jiaxing's GDP exceeded 550 billion yuan ($86.34 billion), a year-on-year increase of 4 percent, its fiscal revenue reached more than 100 billion yuan, and the total output of industries above designated size amounted to over 1 trillion yuan, all of which were ranked third in Zhejiang.

In addition, Jiaxing's investment in research and development accounted for more than 3 percent of the total GDP last year.
