Jiaxing releases upcoming Dragon Boat Festival activities

Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province published its activities to celebrate the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 14 this year, local media reported on June 1.

The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese festival that falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. On that day, people usually eat rice dumplings, also known as zongzi, and organize dragon boat races to celebrate the festival.

Here is the schedule for the celebrations in Jiaxing:

June 5: Dragon boat race and other activities concerning Dragon Boat Festival customs in Chongfu town in the county-level city of Tongxiang, starting from 9 am;

June 6: The ninth National University Digital Art Design Competition at Jiaxing Vocational and Technical College, running in the afternoon;

June 11: The Jiaxing Cultural Industry Expo at Jiaxing International Convention and Exhibition Center, starting from 9:30 am;

June 11: Dragon boat race on the Shangtang River in Chang'an town in the county-level city of Haining, starting from 1 pm;

June 11: Dragon boat race on Nanbei Lake in Haiyang county, starting from 1:30 pm;

June 11: The Jiangnan Folk Song Festival and YRD Field Songs Performance at Wuguniang Park in Xitang town, Jiashan county, starting from 7 pm;

June 12: Dragon boat race and demonstration match for riding white boats, a popular water sports in Jiaxing, on Xinan Lake, starting from 9 am;

June 12: Food festival at Jiaxing Great Canal Tourism Resort, starting from 10:30 am;

June 12: Zongzi-making competition at Jiaxing International Convention and Exhibition Center, running all day;

June 12: Folk customs experience at Moon River Historic Block, starting from 2 pm;

June 13: Dragon boat race in Shantang village, Guangchen town in the county-level city of Pinghu, starting from 1:30 pm;

June 13: Zixu Temple Fair at Xushan Mountain Ruins Park, starting from 9:30 am.
