Jiaxing's foreign trade up 36.8% in H1

The imports and exports of Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province increased 36.8 percent year-on-year to 175.09 billion yuan ($27.07 billion) in the first half of the year, local media reported on July 21.

Imports totaled 128.85 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 35.9 percent, while exports stood at 46.25 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39.4 percent.

The United States was still the largest export market of Jiaxing in the first six months of the year, followed by the European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Latin America and Japan with respective exports of 27.49 billion yuan, 23.87 billion yuan, 16.01 billion yuan, 7.87 billion yuan and 7.36 billion yuan.

The city's export to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative grew 37.5 percent year-on-year to 40.94 billion yuan during the same period.

ASEAN, EU, Japan, and South Korea were Jiaxing's four largest import markets in the Jan-June period with respective values of 10.33 billion yuan, 6.57 billion yuan, 5.36 billion yuan and 5.14 billion yuan, year-on-year increases of 133.8 percent, 13.8 percent, 26.9 percent, and 2.7 percent.

The city's imports from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative increased 74.5 percent to 14.4 billion yuan during the same period.

Jiaxing exported 63.46 billion yuan worth of mechanical and electrical products, 44.5 billion yuan worth of labor-intensive products, and 21.66 billion yuan worth of high-tech products in the first half of the year. It imported 14.28 billion yuan worth of mechanical and electrical products, 7.43 billion yuan worth of high-tech products and 3.74 billion yuan worth of agricultural products.
