Jiaxing BMX racer wins Zhejiang's 1st National Games medal

Huang Chaolei from Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province won the first medal for the province in BMX (Bicycle Motocross) Racing at the 14th National Games in Xi'an, Shaanxi province on Sept 20.

There were four male athletes and four female athletes from Zhejiang competing in the race, with Huang finishing second with a score of 45.268, the best performance for Zhejiang at the National Games.

"All Zhejiang athletes' performances exceeded the expectations of our coaches and they've had good results," said Yang Yunsheng, head coach of the Zhejiang BMX team.

Born in 1992, Huang was selected to the Zhejiang provincial team after attending the Sports Meeting of Zhejiang on behalf of Jiaxing in 2010. Since then, Huang has won the National Cycling BMX Championship and finished in second place at the National BMX Tournament.

BMX racing was included as an official event of the Olympic Games in 2008 and as early as 2004, Zhejiang set up a BMX team. Currently, the Zhejiang provincial team has 16 BMX riders.
