Pepper industry supported by Jiaxing enterprise thrives in Shaya

Over 10,000 mu of (666.67 hectares) peppers planted in Shaya county, Aksu, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, are expected to generate more than 30 million yuan ($4.47 million) in net income, according to local media reports.

Zhejiang Enterprise Development Co Ltd from Jiaxing, Zhejiang set up operations in Shaya county in 2020 with the assistance of the Jiaxing government to help the county develop its pepper industry.

According to Zhang Zhizhong, general manager of Zhejiang Enterprise Development Co Ltd, the company has employed more than 200 people to manage over 10,000 mu of pepper this year, and some residents come to learn planting and management techniques.

"My wife and I manage 100 mu of peppers, and each person can earn 5,000 yuan per month," said Balati Rouzi, an employee at the company. He added that he plans to contract land to grow pepper next year after learning techniques from the company.

Shi Bing, a grower in Shaya county, followed the company to plant 4,000 mu of peppers. The company supplied him with pepper seedlings and will later purchase his ripe peppers. In October, he is expected to receive a net income of 12 million yuan.
