Jiaxing's first photovoltaic carport was put into use at the first phase of the Xisha Outlets Plaza in Haining, Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, local media reported on July 19.

The first phase of the Xiasha Outlets Plaza covers an area of nearly 130,000 square meters and has more than 8,000 free parking spaces. At the beginning of this year, the second phase opened, covering an area of 79,000 sq m.

Due to its large size, the plaza consumes about 15 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.

The photovoltaic carport is expected to generate 3.5 million kWh of electricity annually and save 1,012 metric tons of standard coal.

In addition to providing clean energy for the shopping center, the carport's 20,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels can reduce the temperature under the panels by about 15 C.

The ideal temperature for electrical energy conversion is between 15 C and 32 C. Due to recent high temperatures, the energy conversion rate of the newly installed photovoltaic carport in the shopping center has reached about 80 percent of its peak period.
