The groundbreaking ceremony of the Zhejiang section of Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo railway was held in Haiyan county, Jiaxing, Zhejiang province on Nov 30.

The Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo railway spans 310 kilometers and has a designed speed of 350 km per hour, while the Zhejiang section of the railway is 165.9 km and has received a total of 62.75 billion yuan ($9.01 billion) in investment.

The railway starts from Nantong West Station in Nantong, passes through Suzhou and Jiaxing, and terminated at Ningbo. There will be 10 stations along the line: Nantong West Station, Zhangjiagang Station, Changshu West Station, Suzhou North Station, Suzhou South Station, Jiashan North Station, Jiaxing South Station, Haiyan Station, Cixi Station and Zhuangqiao Station.

In Jiaxing, the railway will pass through Jiashan county, Nanhu district, Economic and Technological Development Zone, Xiuzhou district and Haiyan county. Three stations - Jiashan North Station, Jiaxing South Station and Haiyan Station - will be set up in the city.

The railway will allow people from Jiaxing to travel to Shanghai, Ningbo, Hangzhou and Suzhou within just over 30 minutes.

In addition, the railway will connect Haiyan county to the national railway network, further stimulating the county's tourism development and better integrating it into Yangtze River Delta development.
