Jiaxing wins intl recognitions at COP15

Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province was named a "Biodiversity Charming City" on Dec 13 at the 7th Summit for Subnational Government & Cities, an official parallel event to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, or COP15, in Montreal, Canada.

The award was in recognition of its commitment to protecting local biodiversity. A total of six cities in China won the award, namely Kunming, Chengdu, Huzhou, Nanyang, Jiaxing and Shenzhen.

In addition, Jiaxing was selected as a global "Cities With Nature" during the event, indicating that Jiaxing has committed to taking action to protect nature by joining Cities With Nature.

Various rare species have appeared in Jiaxing due to the city's improved environment. For example, egretta eulophotes, a national first-class protected wild animal, and kestrel, a national second-class protected wild animal, were spotted in the city recently.
