Haining's floral economy flourishes

The local flower economy in Haining, a county-level city of Jiaxing, Zhejiang province is thriving, with yearly sales approaching 800 million yuan ($110.6 million).

The city boasts a diverse array of flowers, including lilies, African chrysanthemums, tulips, and hydrangeas, totaling 134 million stems annually, all destined for high-end markets.

Additionally, more than 30 million pots of plants like orchids and begonias are produced per year. With over 7,000 mu (466.67 hectares) dedicated to flower cultivation, Haining has established itself as a hub for the flower industry, generating substantial revenue from flower sales.

Tianming village in Chang'an town, Haining is renowned locally for its vibrant flower industry. Home to seven large-scale flower enterprises, the village's total output value exceeds 100 million yuan, while combined sales from other growers reach close to 300 million yuan. Notably, online sales of the village's flowers have surpassed 100 million yuan in recent years.

In a bid to integrate the flower and tourism economies, Tianming village has begun exploring various initiatives. Chen Weida, secretary of the Tianming village Party committee, emphasized the importance of enhancing the synergy between the flower and tourism industries to attract more visitors.
