Dushan Port in Jiaxing welcomed the Panama-flagged Crane Helios at its A3 berth on April 5, marking the berth's first large-scale international trade activity since January.

The A3 berth, the sixth liquid berth in Dushan Port and the 38th in Jiaxing Port, is designed for 30,000-metric-ton vessels and specializes in handling liquid chemicals, with an annual capacity of 1.69 million tons.

The berth currently mainly supports the import material transportation needs of Dushan Port Petrochemical Industrial Park.

A3's unique feature is its connection to the "chemical highway", a public utility tunnel facilitating seamless and inter-provincial material transport.

"Once the utility tunnel is fully completed and put into use, shared materials for enterprises in the Shanghai Petrochemical Industrial Park can be transported through the pipe gallery, achieving seamless connection from the dock to the enterprise, and even cross-provincial docking," said Li Yueping, head of the Industry Department of the Jiashan Port Economic Development Zone.

Dushan Port, the only deep-water port in northern Zhejiang, has been expanding rapidly since obtaining international clearance in 2016. Currently, the port has opened 12.6 kilometers of shoreline to international traffic, constructed 23 offshore production berths, including 17 10,000-ton class berths, with an additional six berths under construction, bringing the total number of operational berths to 16.

The expansion of the port has led to an increase in cargo throughput. In 2023, Dushan Port achieved a record high of 55.12 million tons of cargo throughput and 593,000 TEUs of container throughput. In January and February, the cargo throughput at Dushan Port reached 8.24 million tons, up 17.47 percent year-on-year, while the container throughput reached 79,000 TEUs, up 7.52 percent year-on-year.
