The Institute for New Rural Development at Peking University, together with Ali Research, recently launched a county-level digital village index and according to the accompanying report Jinyun county – administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – scored 97.3 points, ranking it 18th in the nation.

Developing digital villages is seen as being an effective way to narrow the gap between urban and rural areas. For this reason, the report selected 2,481 counties and districts nationwide as the reference frame for the study.

In recent years Jinyun has been ardently following the path of digital reform and is continuing to promote its digital transformation and the intelligent upgrading of different industries.

Furthermore, the county has been promoting the integration of e-commerce with eco-friendly and sustainable industries, as well as with the agriculture and tourism sectors.

In 2021, the county launched a total of 17 specialized e-commerce villages, while online retail sales that year reached 16.4 billion yuan ($2.46 billion), up 26.6 percent year-on-year.

To top it off, last year Alibaba Group's "customer service county" project signed up to settle in Jinyun, providing a digital employment platform for the county.
