Qingyuan county – administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – is widely said to have really excelled in its program to go green.

In the first half of the year, the county ranked first in surface water environmental quality and ambient air quality indexes among all the counties and county-level cities in Zhejiang.

In terms of water environmental quality, from January to June, seven monitoring sections in the country – including those at Songyuan and Zhukou creeks – met the water quality requirements for surface water functional areas.

As for air quality, during the same period, Qingyuan's ambient air quality comprehensive index was 2.02 and its excellent and good air quality rate was 100 percent.

According to statistics, in the first half of the year, Qingyuan carried out remedial action – to replace volatile organic chemicals at five enterprises and to improve three industrial furnaces – among other successful moves to tackle problem pollution sources.  

The county has this year also established an ecological and environment monitoring network that covers all the villages and sub-districts under its jurisdiction.
