Lishui city welcomes autumn harvest with great gusto

On the occasion of the fifth Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival on Sept 23, Lishui city – located in East China's Zhejiang province – celebrated the event with vigor and great gusto across the region it administers.

The fifth She Village Autumn Harvest Festival opened in Wubu village, located in Lishui's Jingning She autonomous county, on Sept 23.

This year, the grain planting area in Jingning covered 98,900 mu (6,593 hectares) and the grain output – when all the final figures are in – is expected to reach 36,800 metric tons, for a bumper harvest.

By diligently holding the harvest festival, Jingning not only showcases the ancient farming and folk culture of the She ethnic group, but also presents the achievements of its rural revitalization in recent years.

Elsewhere, in Yugong Eco-farm in Qingtian county, more than 120 mu of rice field is now covered with heavy rice ears. Xu Guanhong, the manager of the farm, said that the average yield of the farm was about 500 kilograms per mu.

In 2011, Xu returned to his hometown of Qingtian from France, to specialize in its rice-fish co-culture system. He subsequently built three bases – the Yugong Eco-Farm for the protection and breeding of the Tianyu fish, a variety of carp; a nursery base for hatching and cultivating the fish; and the provincial rice-fish co-culture system demonstration base, which mainly carries out experiments on calculating the most financially beneficial ratio of rice and fish breeding.

In Licun village in Yunhe county, snow pears were being harvested recently. In recent years, while developing the cultivation of snow pears, the village has also utilized the crop's influence to help develop rural tourism, folklore displays, leisure sports, farming experiences and a series of new business forms.

Last year, the village harvested 1 million kg of snow pears and achieved a per capita increase in income of 25,000 yuan ($3521.8). This year, production in Yunhe is expected to hit 6,000 tons, with output value topping 100 million yuan.
