The fifth World Celadon Conference is scheduled to be held on Oct 31 to Nov 1 in Hangzhou – capital of East China's Zhejiang province – according to a news conference held recently in Zhejiang's Lishui city.

The conference will include a main forum, a celadon art exhibition, as well as several parallel forums and themed activities. It aims to promote the Longquan celadon to the world and create a new platform for this form of intangible cultural heritage, according to officials.

Longquan – a county-level city administered by Lishui – is an historical city famous for producing Chinese ceramics. In the 12th to 15th centuries, Longquan celadon ceramics became one of the main export products of the Maritime Silk Road and charmed the world with their magnificent greenish tint.

In 2009, the traditional firing technology used for Longquan celadon ceramics was included on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, making it the first and only ceramics in the world to be so selected.

Officials said the event will showcase the pivotal history and role in cultural exchanges involving Longquan celadon ceramics.

The conference is being co-hosted by the China Arts and Crafts Association, the China Ceramic Industry Association, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Lishui municipal government.
