A bevy of folk activities are expected to be staged on April 21-23 in Jingning She autonomous county – administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – to celebrate the Sanyuesan festival.

Sanyuesan, which in Chinese refers to the third day of the third lunar month, is one of the country's most famous folk festivals.

The three-day event, the largest and highest-level cultural gala to be held in Jingning in nearly three years, will include an opening ceremony, a cultural evening gala, a theoretical seminar, an ethnic cultural performance, a sports carnival, a cultural fair and an exhibition of She ethnic group costumes.

A highlight of the festival will be a large outdoor immersive performance of the ethnic group's customs, which will recreate scenes of work and daily life in She villages.

People of the She ethnic group began to celebrate the Sanyuesan back in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The tradition has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage item.

According to preliminary statistics, Jingning has booked more than 200 tourist groups and is expecting to receive nearly 40,000 tourists.
