A primary school student designed and presented a piece of equipment that allows for the family cultivation of toadstool leather coral at the 38th Zhejiang Adolescents Science & Technology Innovation Contest, which concluded in Jinyun county, Lishui, Zhejiang province on April 14.

Yang Lihong from Wenzhou Experimental Primary School surprised participants with his toadstool leather coral asexual reproduction technology.

His inspiration came from an oceanarium event. "At that event, I observed the shedding of leather corals and learned they are endangered. With a desire to contribute to environmental protection, I began to cultivate leather corals myself," explained Yang.

The contest was filled with remarkable displays of young ingenuity and creativity, including an intelligent winding machine capable of adjusting winding turns for various materials, a mathematical model for optimizing dining intervals in school cafeterias, and a new material designed to enhance safety on rural roads by providing self-illumination.

The event has become one of the largest and most influential science and technology innovation activities for primary and secondary schools in the province.

Since its launch in late January this year, the contest has received a total of 381 works from various locations, including 311 science and technology innovation achievements by teenagers in fields such as mathematics, physics, life sciences, and environmental sciences.
