Hangzhou, like Paris, is 'City of Lights' for G20
A lighting show themed "City, Water, Light and Shadow" dazzled Qianjiang New Town in Hangzhou on Sept 3 to welcome the G20 guests.
The 22 minute show was composed of three chapters, namely, "Soul of the City", "Spirit of the Water" and "Shadow of the Light". It covered 35 buildings scattered in the CBD area, including the Hangzhou Citizen's Center, the Hangzhou International Convention Center and the Hangzhou Grand Theatre.
In conjunction with the musical fountain of the Hangzhou Grand Theatre, the show’s goal was to display "Chinese style, Jiangnan charm, Hangzhou elements and New town characteristics".
"Soul of the city" showed its audience the historical Hangzhou, a city known for its quality of life and vitality, through its natural scenery, architecture, and cultural elements.
"Spirit of Water" presented the link between Hangzhou and water from three perspectives: "Water of Life", "Water of nature" and "Water of wisdom” using images of the Qiangtang River, including its tide.
The chapter "Shadow of Light" used visual and audio effects to embody the modern disposition and dynamism of Hangzhou. Fashionable elements such as fireworks, Kongming Lanterns and a comic show were also integrated into the event.
The three chapters combined showed Hangzhou’s mix of traditional Chinese culture and its own unique characteristics.
Adding to the magic, the lighting sources were hidden behind facades and invisible during the day, but lit up when night fell.
