Cultural symbols of Hangzhou
Fanjiulou
Fanjiulou, which literally means climbing to the ninth floor, is a type of acrobatic performance popular in the Xiaoshan district of Hangzhou. It requires performers to climb a tower that had been made of nine stacked square tables to perform all manner of stunts. Performances on this kind of 11-meter high "stage" were designated an international cultural heritage in 2008.
China Fan Museum
Located besides the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the China Fan Museum features classic architecture with various exhibits from both home and abroad, containing exhibits both modern and historical. If you're lucky, you can meet the "fan master", and learn to make a fan yourself.
