Cultural symbols of Hangzhou
Book Bar
Passing through a Republican-era mansion on Beishan Road, you will arrive at a book bar called "An Age of Innocence". The shop sign was written by famous artist Han Meilin, and the pair of couplets at the entrance was a gift from Mo Yan, famous Chinese writer and winner of a Nobel Literature Prize. Other famous Chinese authors and poets have also left their mark there. Reading books, drinking tea, cultural exchanges –– this government-supported private bookstore has now become a new cultural landmark in Hangzhou.
Cultural Walls
Along both the small lanes and wide streets of Hangzhou there are cultural walls, which are painted with beautiful stories about the city. There are bright scenes of the West Lake, stories about old poems and the history of Hangzhou, and all kinds of depictions of the most beautiful sights in Hangzhou. These walls have become part of the culture of the city, and are an integral part of life there.
