The "hometown of cardigans", Puyuan town in Tongxiang, Zhejiang province, is hosting a fashion week from Sept 9 to 15, showcasing the new look of its prized thermal garments.
Organized by the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) and the Tongxiang government, the fashion week will also include exhibitions, forums and evening parties to showcase the fashionable new looks from Puyuan.
Puyuan, is the largest production base of cardigans in China, with an unbeatable domestic market share of 70 percent.
"We have made bold innovations by upgrading our garments to a fashionable customized style in an effort to grab the high-end market", said Wang Shenfeng, mayor of Tongxiang.
In order to support the upgrade, the township made a fixed asset investment of 4.08 billion yuan ($625 million) in the first half of the year. The results yielded an industrial output value of 13.05 billion yuan ($1.9 billion), a year-on-year increase of eight percent in the first half of the year.
The opening of Puyuan Textile City was also announced on Sept 9, which will "totally transform the traditional market", according to Zang Guoliang, who has operated a cashmere business for three years in Puyuan.
"The move will congregate shops and make it easier for us to find the goods we want," Zang added.
