Assorted activities to welcome New Year
With the New Year approaching, a variety of cultural events including art exhibitions, concerts and grassroots galas will be staged all around Zhejiang province.
Here are some selected events worth visiting from Dec 30, 2017 to Jan 1, 2018.
Beauty of exhibitions
China National Silk Museum will stage a fashion show that combines technology and fashion. Over 100 exquisite and creative artworks will be displayed to present Chinese designs and beauty in the era of science and technology.
At Zhejiang Museum of Natural History, chirps and appearances from different types of birds allow people to experience the peace of nature in the city's hustle and bustle. A total of 106 birds and 238 episodes of birds twitter, collected in the past 15 years, will create a small ecology through the use of VR glasses and headsets.
The Chinese culture is a highlight of the exhibitions at museums in Zhejiang. Hangzhou Arts and Crafts Museum is going to present the achievements of a study plan initiated five years ago. According to the plan, five national masters recruited apprentices for the inheritance of time-honored handicrafts several years ago and today, 91 pieces of works are going to show the results of the plan and tell the stories of inheritance and innovation.
At Wenzhou's Ouhai Mesuem, a porcelain exhibition was opened to the public on Dec 27. Alongside the exhibition, a series of speeches on the history of local kilns and a variety of activities are expected to bring traditional culture back to today's society.
Beauty of performances
To celebrate the arrival of New Year, performances of opera, symphony and drama will be staged across the province including a concert of Huangmei Opera and Chinese poems and a Yuejue Opera show at Zhejiang Conservatory of Music on Dec 30.
Symphony concerts are also reserved for New Year. On the first day of 2018, Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra will present 15 classic pieces of music for spectators in Hangzhou. On New Year's Eve, artists from France will bring a grand concert to Hangzhou Grand Theatre as well.
The cultural halls at the villages in Zhejiang will be filled with laughetrs cheerful voices during the New Year holiday. Assorted cultural activities will be held on stages of the halls, making New Year more accessible to villagers.
