Inspired by the local custom of giving guests carved wooden fish around the Spring Festival holiday, Bao started to make "fish models" using eco-friendly materials such as waste paper. The lifelike creations turned out to be a hit and have even helped Bao to obtain a patent from China's IP authorities.
To promote the popularity of the fish lanterns, Bao decided to target the tourism market by developing smaller, lighter lanterns, which have become the hottest souvenirs among tourists.

We have to modernize and be aware of current trends to stay relevant in a competitive market, added Bao.
