The World Ocean Day, which falls on June 8 this year, aims to further create an atmosphere of concern for the sea resources and promote the high quality development of marine economy with the theme of "forge ahead in the new era and set sail on the new ocean".
Major celebration activities for the Day, including the opening and closing ceremonies, will be held in Zhoushan. The opening ceremony is scheduled on the morning of June 8 while the closing ceremony will be on June 10.
Meanwhile, there will be some supporting events in the city as well, such as a forum and an exhibition on the planning of ocean space, an exhibition of Zhoushan's marine arts and a music festival.
The island city of Zhoushan is a State-level new area featuring the development of marine economy and one of the country's first seven demonstration sites for the innovative development of marine economy. It's been focusing on the protection and sustainable exploitation of marine resources for decades.
