An exchange meeting between top Italian designers and Wenzhou companies was held in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, June 28.

The meeting, as part of Wenzhou's efforts to seek talents and promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, enabled over 40 designers from Milan, Turin and the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) and 150 representatives from Wenzhou companies to engage with each other.

The meeting led to agreement on 30 deals.

Though some traditional industries, including apparel, leather and auto parts, enjoy great production capacity in Wenzhou, the quality of products needs to be improved, said a local official, adding that the Italian fashion industry and traditional industries in Wenzhou are highly compatible.

Alberico Guerzoni, vice-president of the design school at IED, said that his school has high expectations for Wenzhou, the home of many outstanding Chinese students at the Italian institute. He also said he hoped to learn more about the city and deepen exchanges and communication between the two sides.

It is hoped that the meeting would give a lift to the bilateral communication and cooperation between Wenzhou and Italy, and contribute to Wenzhou's industrial development.
