Artists began creating their sand sculptures for 2018 China Zhoushan International Sand Sculpture Festival in Zhoushan, an island city in Zhejiang province, July 2.

This year, the festival attracted over 30 sculptors from China, Latvia, the Netherlands, Canada, Spain, the Czech Republic, Russia and Belgium to make creations themed on "love for sand sculptures".

"I've been engaged in sand sculpture art for a decade and I find working in Zhoushan very enjoyable," said Jeroen Advocaat from the Netherlands.

The local media said this year's edition will feature improvements to the small trains that whisk people around the sculpture park and will apply more advanced technologies along the route.

In addition, the whole park will be classified into different sections and present a more fascinating audio and visual feast by virtue of lights, sounds, springs and colored drawings.

This year's festival will open to public July 21.
